My name is Tereza Soukupová, formerly Drábková, and I come from the land of beads – the Czech Republic which is a beautiful small country in the middle of Europe.
Eye Catchers earrings
I’ve been playing with beads since I was ten years old. Throughout my beading journey, I have tried many different techniques, enjoyed making beaded animals, did some wire working, also chainmaille, experimented with polymer clay and much more.
In 2009, I tried using Japanese TOHO seed beads, one of the most regular type of rocaille, in my work for the first time which set me on the path leading to beadweaving. Nevertheless, in 2012, I took the major step and became a self-taught jewellery artist focusing mostly on soutache embroidery technique.
I also teach beading classes of different levels focused mostly on soutache embroidery.
For those who can’t attend my beading classes, I create PDF tutorials with detailed photographs and a thorough description for which I also prepare kits. You can also watch my video tutorials created for Potomac Bead Company YouTube channel . I joined their “forces” in 2018, leading their European branch potomacbeads.eu .

Circinate Vernation competing in the Battle of the Beadsmith 2014.
Circinate Vernation soutache set
My 2014 battle piece is called „Circinate Vernation“ and it is a set of a necklace and a pair of earrings. The name covers its resemblance to fern as well as the vast amount of spirals. Originally and in private, I used a Czech nickname „Rákosníček“ which is a character from a famous Czech child cartoon. If you’d like to know why, try to google it I worked with techniques such as peyote stitch, bead embroidery, beadweaving, and most of all soutache embroidery. Used materials are Czech Preciosa seed beads, Japanese seed beads 11/0 and 15/0, Czech fire polished beads, Czech pressed rounds, hand made polymer clay cabochons, a hand made glass cabochon with silver, Czech soutache braids, Ultrasuede and Alcantara suede for backing, Nymo and S-lon threads, and stainless steel wires for earrings. Sizing: 41 cm length around neck; 31 cm from clasp to the end of the longest fringe; max width 15 cm. I measured the time while I was sewing which took 70 hours. And so in reality, I guess, it took me many more hours to complete it Finally, I would like to thank to Lucie Růžičková who created the beautiful polymer clay cabs I used for this piece, and to Jana Zouzalová l Fotografie for the awesome photos on a model 🙂
